How to convert USD to EUR
Multiply the amount in US dollars by the current rate: EUR = USD × USD/EUR rate. At a rate of 0.8905, $100 equals 100 × 0.8905 = €89.05.
To convert euros back to US dollars, divide by the same rate: USD = EUR ÷ USD/EUR rate. For example, €100 ÷ 0.8905 is about $112.30.

About the US dollar and the euro
The euro and the US dollar are the two most widely held currencies in the world. Traders usually quote the pair the other way round, as EUR/USD, meaning dollars per euro. This page shows the inverse: how many euros one dollar buys.
The rate reflects the balance between the world’s two largest economic areas. When the US Federal Reserve keeps interest rates higher than the European Central Bank, the dollar tends to strengthen and one dollar buys more euros.
What moves the USD to EUR rate?
- Fed and ECB policy: the gap between US and euro-area interest rates is the main long-term driver.
- Economic data: inflation, jobs and growth figures on both sides of the Atlantic move the pair daily.
- Energy prices: Europe imports much of its energy, so price spikes can weaken the euro.
- Safe-haven demand: in times of stress investors often buy dollars.
Who uses the USD to EUR rate?
Travellers heading to Europe, online shoppers, exporters and importers, investors and remote workers paid in dollars all need this conversion. For holiday spending, a card without foreign-transaction fees normally gives a rate close to the mid-market figure shown here.
Why the rate you receive is lower
The mid-market rate is a reference point, not a retail price. Providers build their profit into the rate they quote and may add service fees or taxes on top. A “zero fee” offer with a poor rate can cost more than a small fee with a rate close to the one shown here, so always compare the final amount.
